1/10/09 The Swiftmud study, scheduled for completion by 12/31/08, will not be complete until February 2009, according to Commissioner Latvala.

September 2008

TBE has given us 6 possible solutions to the flooding problem. This is great news for our community...WE CAN REDUCE THE FLOODING TO AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL in the Toniwood Area AND PRESERVE THE COURSE!!    In short they are:

1- Floodplain Storage Ponds (not feasible per TBE)

2- 3350’x 60’ Channel  $5.7 million

     a. Level of water on Toniwood in a 25 yr flood event- .02’.

     b. 60 ‘ wide with berms- too wide for golf course.

3- 3450’ dbl 6’ x 12’ Box Culvert  $22.3 million.

    a. Level of water on Toniwood in a 25 yr flood event- .24’.

    b. Under golf course. Course closed during construction.

4- 1800’ x 120’ channel $5.4 million.

    a. Level of water on Toniwood in a 25 yr flood event- .26’.

    b. Would destroy golf course holes 11 and 18.

5- 1840’ x triple 6’ x12’ Box Culvert $18.1 million.

     a.   Level of water on Toniwood in a 25 yr flood event- .55’.

     b.  Under golf course. Course closed during construction.

6-  3400’ x 50’ Expanded Brooker Creek $7.1 million.

     a.   Level of water on Toniwood in a 25 yr flood event- .54’.

     b.  6 acres of Wetlands Mitigation, environmental permitting resistance.

7-  3700’ x 24’ concrete paved ditch  $9 million.

     a.  Level of water on Toniwood in a 25 yr flood event- .22’.

     b.  Workable solution, width preserves golf course.

TWAC strongly believes the answer may lie within the larger study by SWIFTMUD of the entire Booker Creek Watershed  which is currently underway. This study should be completed by December 2008. It is possible, SWIFTMUD may make changes upstream from our area, diverting water into Brooker Creek Preserve which could drastically relieve the flooding issues downstream in the Toniwood Area!
